Parents and child care providers get a boost this year. Is it enough?

The cost of caring for your kids is anything but affordable for many families, and the pandemic made the nation’s already troubled child care system even worse.
But new funding through the American Rescue Plan is supposed to bring the industry back, and those in and out of the business say they need the help now more than ever.
Rachelle Kennedy, owner of Rainforest Academy in Fort Myers, says being a mom comes first.
“I don’t operate this as a business, I operate this as a parent, and what I would want my children to go to,” she said.

MARION, Ill. (KFVS) - Illinois is resuming high school athletics, leaving teams to fit a normal season into just couple of weeks.
âBeing there for competition season felt more normal for us,â said Emily Jones.
In less than two weeks Emily Jones and her co-captains, Victoria Shore and Libby Mayers will begin competition season with the Marion High School dance team.
They said itâs difficult trying to come up with routines in such a short period of time.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) Two years after Louisville Metro Police Detective Deidre Mengedoht was killed in a fiery crash on Interstate 64, she was remembered in a virtual graveside ceremony.
On Christmas Eve in 2018, Mengedoht pulled a car over on I-64 in downtown Louisville. Roger Burdette, a former MSD employee driving a work truck, crashed into Mengedoht s car. It burst into flames and killed her.
Every year on the anniversary of her death, LMPD holds a memorial service. Last year, it drew a crowd to her gravesite. This year, the COVID-19 pandemic kept it virtual.
Former LMPD Maj. Bill Weedman, who is a pastor, spoke and said a prayer.
