VUE President: Vaccines For Teachers Over 50 A Step In The Right Direction

Mar 3, 2021 12:00 PM DeLand, FL - Getting the COVID-19 vaccine for all Volusia County Schools teachers is something that their union, Volusia United Educators (VUE), has been working on since the vaccine became available. VUE President Elizabeth Albert said it s a step in the right direction but it s obviously not enough.    Albert said that everyone in our schools is at higher risk just by showing up to work each day because schools are not built for social distancing. We know we have issues with folks following the mandatory face-covering policy and not everyone has had access to the vaccine but definitely a step in the right direction. The Volusia County School District sent out an email on Monday (March 1) at around 9 p.m. to the teachers who became eligible after Governor Ron DeSantis issued the executive order making teachers, law enforcement, and firefighters over the age of 50 eligible for the vaccine. VCS Teachers Will Get Stipend For 3rd & 4th Quarters

The Volusia County School Board (VCSB) approved that during yesterday s (February 23) meeting. The modalities are teaching face to face in the classroom and teaching students who come to the classroom through the Volusia Live platform.
