NEW YORK CITY The Empire State still led the nation in coronavirus cases last week, despite falling numbers in New York City and troubling surges elsewhere.
New York had 53,088 COVID-19 cases last week, according to Johns Hopkins University s Coronavirus Resource Center.
The second-highest state, Michigan which has seen a sharp uptick in cases in recent weeks had 46,879 cases that week, data shows.

Cases in New York City tallied 23,795 last week, a decrease from its monthly average, city data shows. But its overall positivity rate still hovers steady at above 6 percent.
