Long Island suffers first loss in ‘bubble,’ losing to Lakeland Magic, 106-100

The Long Island Nets suffered the first loss of their shortened G League season, falling to the Lakeland Magic, the Magic affiliate, 106-100 Friday at Disney World. With the loss, the Nets fall to 1-1 in the 15-game regular season.
Following the loss, Bret Brielmaier characterized the defeat as a tough one.
“Tough loss. They never feel good but how we bounce back will be the exciting part about this,” Bret Brielmaier said following the loss. “We have an incredible group of guys in there and a resilient group, who have so far embraced this challenge. We will get better tomorrow and we will continue down this path of improving as a group.

The Long Island Nets have touched down at the G League’s Orlando “bubble” ready to take on a 15-game season in 25 days, starting nine days from now. Long Island’s roster is a mix of NBA veterans, G League standouts and three rookies. It’s a grueling schedule, but one they think they have the right pieces for.
“Matt Riccardi has done an incredible job of putting this together,” Bret Breilmaier, the head coach of Long Island said during a Zoom call Monday from Disney World. “It is very balanced in my opinion. We have some veteran leadership that has a good deal of NBA experience.
James Harden records triple-double in debut as Brooklyn defeats Orlando, 122-115

Two out of three ain’t bad.
With two of their “Big Three” on the court, the Nets opened their era with a win, defeating the Orlando Magic, 122-115, in Brooklyn Saturday night. With the win, the Nets extend their winning streak to a season-best three games improving to 8-6 on the season.
The big story was James Harden, who suited up for the first time as a Net, putting on a clinic and showing he was the same Beard. From the stepback three’s to getting to the line to facilitating, Harden ended his Nets debut with a triple-double (47th of his career) with 32 points, 12 rebounds, and 14 assists in 40 minutes, becoming the seventh player in NBA history to record a triple-double in a team debut and the first to record a 30-point triple-double. In addition, Harden’s 14 assists marked a Nets franchise record for assists in a player s debut.
