How photographer Scott P Yates got the chess pieces shot of Jeremiah Davis

ROCKFORD  If you haven’t seen the series “The Queen’s Gambit” on Netflix, then I am a photographic genius and portrait photographers like Annie Leibovitz and Platon are put on notice. But if you have binged the hit drama series like I have, then you’ll recognize the mind-bending aesthetics I shamelessly borrowed to make this portrait.  This is a classic example of an artist taking a good idea from artistic heroes to make a great piece his own. My particular recipe includes a love of reflections, knowing the limits of my equipment and the ability to stretch the patience of portrait subjects.

Mia Moore, a 9 st Place for her excellent exhortation of the topic The Black Family: Representation, Identity & Diversity. Coming in 2 th grader Hunter Young, a student at Branded Genius Academy and a member of Boy Scout Troop 848 in Los Angeles. 11 Jeremiah Davis placed 3 rd from St. John Basco in Bellflower, CA and he also represented the Gamma Zeta Boule’ Foundation. An honorable mention was awarded to Ryshaun Brown, a 9 th grader from Blue Ridge Academy in Santa Clarita, CA. Track & Field Set for Split Meet Weekend

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –  The Florida State Track and Field team will be spending the weekend split between two meets, the Tom Jones Invite at Florida and the Virginia Challenge at Virginia. Both take place on April 16 and 17. Tom Jones Invite The majority of the squad will be returning to the University of Florida campus for the Tom Jones Invite at the Percy Beard Track in James G. Pressly Stadium. With schools like Ole Miss, Arkansas, Kentucky, Miami, Louisville, Georgia, and NC State attending, this weekend’s meet will be strong competition for the Seminoles from top to bottom. There will be some familiar faces this weekend competing in their first outdoor competition, all of whom are coming off spectacular indoor performances. Among that group is Jeremiah Davis (long jump), Maudie Skyring (1500m & 800m) and Ruta Lasmane (triple jump & long jump).
