Buffalo Trace Continues Its Barrel Aging Warehouses Build Out
Buffalo Trace, in an ongoing $1.2 billion infrastructure investment at its historic distillery campus in Kentucky, has been at work over the last few years on various projects. One of these is the addition of new barrel warehouses, each capable of holding 58,000 barrels. To date ten of these have been built and now, including existing older warehouses, offer an on-site barrel inventory of over one million aging whiskey barrels.
The brand provided recently an update on how the barrel warehouse build out is going. It noted that “starting in the spring of 2018, Buffalo Trace began filling its first new warehouse located on the adjacent 292-acre farm purchased several years ago. Kentucky-based Buffalo Trace Distillery has confirmed the quality of whiskey maturing in its 10 new warehouses is ‘consistent’ with liquid from its main campus.
Each new Buffalo Trace warehouse can hold 58,800 barrels
Sazerac-owned Buffalo Trace revealed its US$1.2 billion expansion plans in 2018, designed to increase production to meet growing demand.
The 10 completed warehouses each have capacity to store 58,800 barrels, creating an on-site inventory of more than one million whiskey barrels. The new warehouses are situated on a 192-acre farm adjacent to the distillery.
Buffalo Trace will continue building at a rate of one new warehouse every four months, meaning three new warehouses will be completed in 2021.
