A daughter of West Kerry could be on the cusp of becoming the first ever female Governor of New York.
Kathleen Courtney Hochul - whose grandparents met in Chicago in 1919 having both left West Kerry - stands poised to assume one of the most powerful positions in US and global politics.
That s if sitting Governor Andrew Cuomo is impeached or forced to resign over the allegations of harassment made against him by a number of women.
If so, Lieutenant Governor of New York Courtney Hochul is likely to assume command of New York s government and its military forces.
Should she be elevated, it will come as an historic moment for Irish America, with two of its leading Democrats at the pinnacle of US might.

BUFFALO, N.Y. Western New York isn t letting the pandemic stop them from celebrating another St. Patrick s Day. The events last year were some of the first to be canceled as the pandemic began in 2020.
Now, things aren t fully back to normal, but there are still quite a few events happening today to get into the Irish spirit.

The Buffalo Irish Center is putting on its annual St. Patrick s Day Irish Breakfast. Tickets were available all this week for pre-sale.

Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown, South District Council Member Christopher P. Scanlon, and members of the United Irish American Association joined together in front of Buffalo City Hall on Saturday morning for an Irish flag-raising ceremony.
