On behalf of the Australian Government, the Australian Renewable Energy Agency’s (ARENA) has today announced the launch of the $71.9 million Future Fuels Fund, announced as part of the 20/21 Federal Budget, aimed at addressing barriers to the roll out of new vehicle technologies.
The first round of the Fund will see $16.5 million of grant funding made available to fund battery electric vehicle (BEV) public fast charging infrastructure to expand the network and reduce blackspots.
The funding will be available to support the roll out of networks of fast charging stations (50 kW and above) across eight geographic areas including each Australian capital city, alongside large regional centres including Newcastle, Wollongong, the NSW Central Coast, Geelong, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. Electricity networks gear up to manage electric vehicle demands on grid
On behalf of the Australian Government, the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has announced $1.6 million in funding to Jemena to undertake a residential electric vehicle (EV) managed charging trial with four other electricity networks in the ACT, Victoria and Tasmania.
Jemena will work with Distribution Network Service Providers (DNSP) AusNet, Evoenergy,
TasNetworks and United Energy on a 176 EV residential trial to demonstrate the use of hardware based smart charging directed by signals from networks as opposed to electricity retailers.
The $3.4 million project will be the first time networks have played a direct role in EV charge management and will assist in their preparedness for the potential impacts of EVs on the electricity system.
On December 16, 2020, the Government of Canada released the
ydrogen Strategy for Canada(Strategy). The government has identified
hydrogen as a critical part of its path towards achieving the goal
of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, affirming that the
development of low-carbon hydrogen is a strategic priority for
Canada over the next 30 years.
This ambitious strategic blueprint for the development of the
hydrogen economy seeks to position Canada as a world leading
exporter of hydrogen by 2050. The Strategy outlines Canadian
specific business opportunities and challenges, recommends the use
of a mix of feedstocks (water, natural gas, petroleum, biomass), as

Montreal-based scent-detection-technology company Stratuscent Inc. is seeking assistance from Technofinance Inc.’s Denis Dumas to help it access an Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada program to improve the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the agriculture sector. According to its website, Stratuscent Inc. is a digital nose that “can detect individual chemicals, chemical mixtures, and everyday odours with incredible accuracy.”
Meanwhile, the U.S. Grains Council wants to engage the government on reducing transportation-sector emissions, as well as the development of Clean Fuel Standard regulations, and has hired Kate Mah of PAA Public Affairs Advisors Inc. to help.
