COVID-19 by the numbers Over the weekend, New Mexico health officials reported 520 new COVID-19 cases: 275 on Saturday and 245 on Sunday. Santa Fe County had 16 new cases nine on Saturday and seven on Sunday. The state also announced 31 more deaths: 15 on Saturday and 16 on Sunday. These included two deaths from Santa Fe County: a man in his 70s who was hospitalized and had underlying conditions, and a man in his 60s who was hospitalized. As of yesterday, 192 people were hospitalized with COVID-19. On Friday, the New Mexico Corrections Department reported 191 new COVID-19 cases at the Lea County Correctional Facility, a surge contributing to that day s higher case counts. Corrections Public Information Officer Eric Harrison tells SFR the facility noticed an uptick in inmate cases on Feb. 11, when surveillance testing turned up 27 positive cases. COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s team wanted more than a third-place finish at the Big Ten indoor championships, but team members will return home with a feeling of pride knowing they competed and performed with outstanding effort on Saturday at the SPIRE Institute, in Geneva, Ohio.
Ohio State was in sixth-place with 17 points entering the day, but the team scored 66 points to trail only Iowa, with 119 points and Indiana, with 92. Ohio State finished with 83 points. The Ohio State women finished in eighth place with 42 total points. Iowa won the men’s championships and Minnesota won the women’s.

A judge has ordered a convicted sex offender, an Albuquerque lawyer, released from a three-year prison sentence into a monitored program with the Bernalillo County jail.
The reason: He cannot get sex offender treatment in prison due to the pandemic.
On Feb. 17, 2nd Judicial District Judge Courtney Weaks suspended two years of 51-year-old Matthew O’Neill’s prison sentence.

Weaks ordered O’Neill transferred to the Metropolitan Detention Center to serve the remaining year in the Community Custody Program. Under the order, O’Neill would be released but would have to check in with MDC regularly, register as a sex offender, wear an ankle monitor and abide by other conditions – such as not being around anyone under the age of 18, aside from his children.
