Wark Tops Stand Pillar Poll Wednesday, 26th Feb 2020 17:14 Town have announced the 12 players who will be featured on the pillars which run through the Sir Alf Ramsey Stand concourse with legend John Wark having topped the voting. Almost 2,000 season ticket holders responded to the club’s request for votes on “icons, heroes, legends of the club [from] across the years” to be featured on the pillars. Wark is joined by Mick Mills, Terry Butcher, Kevin Beattie, Paul Mariner, George Burley, Frans Thijssen and Arnold Muhren from the FA and UEFA Cup-winning Sir Bobby Robson era, while Sir Alf Ramsey’s First and Second Division championship-winning team is represented by Ray Crawford with his strike partner Ted Phillips having finished just outside the top 12.

Shrews Match Postponed Due to Frozen Pitch Saturday, 13th Feb 2021 14:16 Town’s game at Shrewsbury has been postponed due to a frozen pitch at Montgomery Waters Meadow. A pitch inspection took place at around 1.50pm with a decision made soon afterwards to postpone the match. Sections of the pitch were a concern once the covers were taken off two hours before kick-off was due to take place. The temperature is minus one and is not expected to get any warmer with light snow falling. The game will now be played on a Tuesday night later in the season, tentative plans to restage it tomorrow not having come to fruition.

Gates on Life s a Pitch Friday, 2nd Feb 2018 23:50 Town and Sunderland legend Eric Gates is the star guest on Life’s a Pitch on BBC Radio Suffolk on Saturday (12-2pm). Host Mark Murphy will also be joined by legend-in-residence Kevin Beattie, New Tractorboy and TWTD s Phil Ham, who will be at the Stadium of Light ahead of the match against the Black Cats. Gates, who joined the Blues as an apprentice in 1971, was a key man in Sir Bobby Robson’s team which won the UEFA Cup in 1981. The Ferryhill-born forward, who won two England caps, eventually left Portman Road for Roker Park back in his native North-East in 1985 and spent five seasons with the Wearsiders and is still based locally.
