Frank Vatrano opened and completed the scoring in the Florida Panthers 4-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets at the BB&T Center.
Vatrano found himself in the right spot to put away a puck that came off the skate of Seth Jones and out in front at the 11:40 mark of the first period after the Panthers applied heavy pressure behind the Blue Jackets net.
Frank Vatrano finds twine for the 16th time this season!
Sam Bennett nets his 1st goal with the @FlaPanthers! He s been sizzling since joining the team! ♨️
The reality for the Blue Jackets is that, as head coach John Tortorella said Thursday night, We re not going to play in the playoffs.
It s a new spot for many members of the Columbus team, who had experienced four straight playoff seasons coming into the campaign.
So while the team is finishing up the season with 11 games to go as of tonight in Dallas, the remaining games are about a number of things. There s playing the right way no matter the frustration of the situation, there s evaluation of young players, and there s the hope that a strong finish can serve as a jumping off point for next season.
The most intriguing part of the rest of the season for the Blue Jackets might center on which young players impress down the stretch.
That could be someone like Patrik Laine, as the 22-year-old superstar has started to find his confidence and shot with three goals in the last two games. That could be someone like Alexandre Texier, the 21-year-old center who played a career high in minutes in Monday night s game vs. Chicago.
Or it could be someone like Josh Dunne, as the 22-year-old center is slated to make his NHL debut tonight when the Blue Jackets take on the Stars in Dallas.

If you were to visit the Great Basin and Colorado Plateau a thousand years ago, you d find conditions remarkably familiar to the present. The climate was warm, but drier than today. There were large populations of Indigenous people known as the Fremont, a who hunted and grew crops in the area. With similar climate and moderate human activity, you might expect to see the types of wildfires that are now common to the American West: infrequent, gigantic and devastating. But you d be wrong.
