Minor injuries reported after multi-unit Winslow house fire

Read Article WINSLOW A multi-unit home in Winslow caught fire Friday, spreading up the back wall of the house and resulting in minor injuries.  Rebecca Adams lives on the second floor of the Bellevue Street home with two of her children, Samuel and Cadence. Adams and Samuel were home Friday when a firefighter banged on the door and told them to get out, she said. Soon after the firefighter arrived the fire alarms in the building began to go off.   Adams said that when she came out of the house the back corner was completely engulfed in flames, and that the firefighters went into her apartment with the hose.

Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin: I will not be resigning

The Birmingham Times After an officer-involved shooting death of a 28-year-old Black man on Easter Sunday and calls from Black Lives Matter Birmingham to step down, Mayor Randall Woodfin said he will not resign.  Last month, Desmon Ray Jr. was killed by Birmingham Police on Easter Sunday when responding to a domestic dispute call in the 200 block of Ninth Avenue West.  On Monday, Black Lives Matter Birmingham called for the resignations of Woodfin and Police Chief Patrick Smith, stating their handling of the police killing of Ray is “unacceptable.”  During a virtual news conference on Tuesday, Woodfin said pointedly: “I want to make this point very clear, I will not be resigning.”
