Apple Inc. is joining the self-driving car game.
According to Reuters, the iPhone maker is targeting 2024 as a potential goal date to enter the fray with a self-driving passenger vehicle, one which will potentially be powered by Apple’s proprietary battery technology.

Known as Project Titan, Apple’s automotive plans seem to temporarily derail in 2014, when the company divested resources in order to pivot to more lucrative software projects. But since then, Apple has apparently boned up operations to the extent that plans are now well underway to produce a mass market consumer vehicle a project that competitors like Waymo, which has thus far focused exclusively on driverless rideshare, have historically shied away from.
On Dec. 16, 2020, at approximately 8:50 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of St. Louis Avenue to assist the Long Beach Fire Department with a gunshot wound victim, which resulted in the death of a male.
Responding officers learned that, prior to their arrival, the victim was determined deceased by Long Beach Fire Department personnel. The original calling party had reported a male who fell and appeared injured in the street. When fire personnel located the victim in the roadway, they observed apparent gunshot wounds to his upper torso and called for police response.
The victim is only being identified as a male at this time, with age unknown. The Los Angeles County Department of the Medical Examiner-Coroner will work to identify the victim and notify next of kin.

Police learned of the shooting after paramedics were called to the 1400 block of St. Louis Avenue just before 8:50 p.m. Wednesday. Someone reported there was “a male who fell and appeared to be injured in the street,” police said.
When medics arrived, they found the boy in the street near 14th Street with apparent gunshot wounds to his upper body, according to the LBPD.
Dispatchers got no calls about gunshots in that area prior to the victim being found, police spokeswoman Allison Gallagher said. It’s unclear if he was shot elsewhere.
The 14-year-old, identified as Arthur Touch, of Long Beach, died at the scene, authorities said.
