Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 16) A second hospital has received the go-signal to use antiparasitic drug ivermectin on its COVID-19 patients, Food and Drug Administration Director General Eric Domingo confirmed on Friday despite the medicine s unproven efficacy against the disease. Yes, a second hospital applied for CSP (compassionate special permit) for Ivermectin and approved, he told CNN Philippines.
The unnamed health facility is the second hospital to receive such permit from the FDA this month. Doctors who will prescribe the drug will be held liable for possible side effects.
Domingo on Thursday admitted there has been pressure to allow ivermectin to be repurposed to cure COVID-19 patients. But he assured that the approvals have been based on merit and completion of requirements.

“Two hospitals na actually ‘yung nag apply sa atin, and have been given CSP,” FDA Director General Eric Domingo said in an interview over ANC on Friday, April 16.
“So actually kahit sino namang mag-apply basta mabigay lang nila yung requirements,” he added.
The FDA chief also confirmed this to the Manila Bulletin in a text message.
“Yes, a second hospital applied for CSP for Ivermectin and approved,” he said.
Domingo explained that a CSP can be granted for medicines that are not registered and commercially available in the Philippines, even for COVID-19 investigational drugs.
April 16, 2021 ANOTHER hospital has been granted a compassionate special permit for the use of antiparasitic drug ivermectin as treatment for coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
In a virtual press briefing Friday, April 16, 2021, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Director General Eric Domingo said the permit allows the hospital to secure one drug per 100 patients.
He said the two hospitals that were granted the permit are expected to closely monitor and regularly report on the status of their patients.
The two hospitals are also accountable for any adverse effects of the use of ivermectin.
Domingo did not name the two hospitals.
He reiterated that there have been no scientifically proven positive effects of ivermectin on Covid-19 patients.
