Des Moines first baby of 2021 was given a fitting name.
Genesis Urbina-Lopez was born at 1:25 a.m. Friday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. She was delivered at 6 lbs, 15.3 ounces to parents Erika Lopez and Abram Urbina of Ankeny.
Genesis is the beginning, the origin, the start of everything, her father said. A very good start to the year.
Originally due Jan. 5, 2021, Genesis was born four days early after about eight hours of labor. She joins an older brother, 5; a second brother, Urbina and Lopez s first child, died shortly after birth.

The Outpour Project once again gave away more than 1,000 toys to families this year.
The organization was the Chautauqua County USDA Food for Families hub this year during the COVID-19 pandemic, and saw a need to be filled for Christmas as well.
“We reached out to Toys for Tots and in short notice we were able to procure 1,000 toys to give away,” Outpour Project coordinator Erika Lopez said. “Our focus has always been on families and our various programs reflect that. We allowed four gifts per car and we ran out in five hours.”
