LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The first ``Safe Sleep Village funded by the city of Los Angeles for the unhoused has been established in Rampart Village.
The site located in a parking lot at Madison Avenue between Beverly Boulevard and Oakwood Avenue can fit up to 72 tents and opened last Thursday, Councilman Mitch O Farrell s office said.
The site, which is operated by Urban Alchemy, drew criticism from homeless advocacy organizations on social media, including Street Watch L.A., which tweeted that “this is absurd. Mitch O Farrell could give everyone at this site a (market) rate apartment with these funds . instead of a concrete square to pitch a tent on.
A 12-year-old Los Angeles girl has been missing since late February, and a school psychologist who works with students in public schools in the downtown area pleaded today for help in finding her.

A new study from the Centers and Disease Control and Prevention found that roughly 75% of unexpected infant deaths were the result of unsafe bedding. Researchers combed through more than 12,000 cases of sudden unexpected infant death between 2011-2017 and found that a majority were the result of unsafe sleep factors, such as soft bedding, pillows, blankets, stuffed animals, and crib bumpers.
The agency said that an average of 3,500 sudden unexpected infant deaths each year, making it the leading cause of death for babies between one month and one year old. LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A Santa Clarita Valley man who claimed to be a tax preparer was sentenced today to seven years in federal prison for defrauding his clients out of more than $4 million by falsely promising huge windfalls from a sham federal program that purportedly would issue large grants to them.
Edgardo Zeta Montalban, 70, of Valencia, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Stanley Blumenfeld Jr., who said Montalban “exploited human frailty in conducting his fraud. Blumenfeld said the criminal conduct in this case was “despicable, cruel and callous, and it caused “devastating effects on numerous victims, according to the U.S. Attorney s Office.
