Team GB s medal tally for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics is lagging behind its performance at Rio, despite the best start to an Olympic Games in modern times from British athletes.
Rio 2016 had been a record-breaking year for Team GB, with the overall achievement of 67 medals - 27 of them gold - and a second-place finish ahead of China, and now hopes are fading this year s Games may top this performance.
A strong start for Team GB in Tokyo came on what has been dubbed Magic Monday , which saw more gold medals awarded to British athletes at the start of an Olympics than any other in recent history.
