Editor s Desk: An In-House Holiday by Neil Clarke : Clarkesworld Magazine

In October, Clarkesworld will celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of its very first issue, but for those of us behind-the-scenes, July (the seventh, to be precise) is where it all began. I was set on this path after a late-night conversation about the state of online fiction with Sean Wallace at Readercon. If you know your history, the state of things at that time could be best summarized as “in disarray.” There was very little respect for the medium and even less stability as markets came and went with high frequency. The closest thing to a success story, SciFiction (edited by Ellen Datlow), had recently announced that it was ending.

How Scots actor Amy Manson stays sane playing a supernatural serial killer in The Nevers

Amy Manson in The White Princess TV Series, 2017. Appearing on Zoom from her home in North London Amy Manson appears to be the antithesis of the serial killer she plays in The Nevers, launching in the UK on Sky and Now TV this month [17th]. Smiling, in a pink sweatshirt bearing the words Property of the Hotel Chelsea (she’s been reading Patti Smith’s Just Kids), Manson stars as one of the leads in the eagerly anticipated HBO sci-fi series, and has also been working on Spencer opposite Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana, directed by cult Chilean (Jackie) director Pablo Larrain. Also due for release is the pre-covid She Will, a film set around Aviemore in Manson’s native Scotland.
