Jeanne Thompson was sworn in as the new mayor of Nevis Monday night.
She has served as a Nevis City Council member for four years and her family has a long history in the Nevis community.
“My great-grandparents, John and Grace Schroeder, moved to Nevis in the 1950s, and since that time members of my family, especially my grandmother, Evelyn O’Borsky, and my father, John O’Borsky, have lived in Nevis in that same home,” she said in an interview.

Katie Rittgers will fill the empty seat on the Nevis City Council that will open in January.
The council appointed her to the position at Monday night’s meeting. The council seat was previously held by Jeanne Thompson, who will assume her role as the new mayor in January.
Formerly Katie Becker, she grew up in Nevis and married Austin Rittgers.
“It has just been such a huge blessing to grow up in this community,” she said. “After going to college in Moorhead, I was lucky enough to get a job teaching in Nevis. I want to serve this community. I’d love to learn more about what is going on and help wherever I can. I’m excited to have this opportunity to give back.”
