FLORENCE In the face of canceled live shows, the artist-led Western Massachusetts group Panopera took to video to capture the wide variety and repertoire of 10 soloists, with the compilation of performances “Rhapsody,” a virtual concert of art song, zarzuela, operetta and opera arias now available on YouTube.
With the performance supported in part by a grant from the Greenfield, Shelburne, Buckland, Ashfield and Colrain Cultural Councils, Panopera members said they wanted to make the program available to be viewed by residents across the Valley. SCARBOROUGH Scarborough’s girls’ lacrosse team was experiencing déjà vu, and not in a good way, late in its Class A South semifinal Friday evening against Massabesic at Kippy Mitchell Sports Complex.
But after letting a lead slip away in a loss to the Mustangs during the regular season, the Red Storm wrote a different ending this time.
It’s a mixed bag, agreed Lucy Mangan in The Guardian, but there’s a thrill in seeing the actors chat and play off each other with an “easy, unfakeable” camaraderie. Their exchanges go deeper than anything the interviewer, James Corden, elicits from them, said Adam White in The Independent, who gave the reunion a four star rating. It’s interesting, too, to learn of their differing relationships with the series: while Jennifer Aniston seems to have “the deepest emotional attachment”, Lisa Kudrow seems, “hilariously”, barely to have watched it.
Corden’s interview felt “peripheral” among the other elements of the show, wrote James Poniewozik for The New York Times. The best moments of this special episode are when it “gets out of the cast’s way and shows us what drew us to them, and them to each other”.
