Florida Finds Election Fraud in High School Homecoming Votes

Florida Finds Election Fraud in High School Homecoming Votes A student and her mother were arrested after the authorities found more than 100 votes suspiciously cast from a single school login. March 16, 2021 MIAMI The report about vote tampering reached the Florida Department of Law Enforcement in early November: Someone had gained access to electronic accounts without authorization. At least 117 votes had been suspiciously cast in J.M. Tate High School’s election for homecoming court. It was a case reminiscent of the 1999 dark comedy film “Election.” Department agents arrested Laura Carroll, 50, and her daughter, Emily Grover, 17, on Monday and charged them with conspiracy to use Ms. Carroll’s school district login to help Ms. Grover get elected homecoming queen.

In all, 117 votes were cast from the same IP address within a short period of time, while a total of 246 votes were cast from their residence for the Homecoming Court. The five-month investigation additionally found that Carroll, who is an assistant principal at Bellview Elementary School, used her district login to access the internal accounts of 372 Tate High students since August. “She looks up all of our group of friends’ grades and makes comments about how she can find our test scores all of the time,” one of the witnesses said, according to the arrest affidavits. The accounts not only include information on students’ grades, but also include students’ medical history and disciplinary records.

Appleton Area School District electors will find the following candidates on their April 6 general election ballots: Incumbent Kay Eggert and challengers Sheri Hartzheim, Amber McGinley and Edward Ruffolo. Plus, Emily Grover had filed as a registered write-in candidate. Ruffolo was to appear on the ballot as an incumbent after the school board in January appointed him to fill the vacant seat left by Leah Olson through the end of her term in April. Days later, though, he withdrew his application for the opening after coming under fire for following several Facebook pages featuring scantily clad models. It was too late to withdraw his name from the April ballot, but Ruffolo told The Post-Crescent he wouldn t actively campaign.
