Bridgertonâs leading characters, with Bear orchestrating the arrangements and producing official tracks.
âWe wanted to do what
Bridgerton did, which is take this 1800s period piece and infuse it with modern elements,â says Bear. âWe know all of the Top 40 songs, we grew up with musical theatre, and with Abigailâs pop sensibilities and my classical style, we really complement each other. Thatâs what
Bridgerton did so well on screen and we want to translate that.â
One of the TikToks Barlow and Bear wrote was âBurn For You,â a duet for Daphne and Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings. It caught the attention of many singing TikTokers, including Nick Daly, a University of Michigan musical theatre acting and playwriting student, and the winner of Playbillâs 2020 Search for a Star contest.

Washington – US period drama Bridgerton has been re-imagined on the social media platform TikTok by singer Abigail Barlow.
The American has started work on a musical version of Chris Van Dusen’s hit new
Netflix show.
So far it includes original songs based on the show. Other users can add their own verses using the app’s Duet feature.
Barlow and her writing partner Emily Bear have “big dreams” of turning it into a full-scale production.
“I’ve always posted my original music on TikTok so this was no different,” she explained to to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme on Monday.
Since Christmas, you haven’t gone a day without watching or talking about Netflix’s latest period drama Bridgerton. Whether you’ve been simping hard for the Duke of Hastings or promenading on your daily walk, one user on TikTok has begun creating Bridgerton the Musical and it is nothing short of fantastic.
Abigail Barlow posted a series of videos to TikTok a couple of weeks ago, posing the question “What if Bridgerton was a musical?”. Her first snippet was Daphne’s Song, which mirrors the last ball of the series, hosted by Daphne and the Duke of Hastings right before it rains. Rightly so, people are going nuts for the Bridgerton musical, duetting Abigail’s videos and making concept Playbill covers for the show.
Emily Bear might be stuck in L.A. seemingly doing nothing. they re shut down there more than we are. but she s actually doing EVERYTHING.
Which is pretty incredible considering she s not even 21 years old yet.
We knew she was talented but this year she dropped a song that really resonated with so many of us and added a new branch to her career, pop music.
Yes there s still a jazzy piano vibe in MANCHILD, but you know you re feeling Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift with those lyrics.
Emily Skyped with me this week on Good Day Stateline to talk about the inspiration behind the song and what she s working on this year. you know that huge show on Netflix, Bridgerton? Well she s part of the team turning it into a musical.
