Oconee planning commission OKs rezone for commercial project on U.S. 441
The Oconee County Planning Commission approved a rezoning request Monday night for a parcel of land on U.S. Highway 441 north of Watkinsville planned as a multi-use commercial development.
The rezoning passed with some stipulations for the 23-acre tract owned by Dave Mulkey of Watkinsville, who plans to develop the project called Oconee Mercantile. The property was sold to him by Oconee State Bank, which is moving its operations into a new building in downtown Watkinsville.
Mulkey also owns the tract currently used by The Stone Store, which wants to move into a new facility on an approximately six-acre tract about 1,000 feet north of the current location.
