Former world pool champion Rubilen Amit showed emotional support to Jeanette Lee, widely known as “The Black Widow” after the American pool player revealed she was diagnosed with Stage 4 ovarian cancer.
“Prayers with you, Jeanette Lee ‘The Black Widow’,” Amit wrote in her Facebook account recently, sharing a post from English pool player Alli Fisher about Lee’s diagnosis.
Lee, 49, revealed her diagnosis in a news release last month, saying: “I intend to bring the same resolve I brought to the billiards table to this fight.”
“Jim Valvano so eloquently told us to ‘Never give up.’ I owe it to my three young daughters to do exactly that.”

Multiple Facebook posts shared repeatedly in early January 2021 claim Filipino pool champion Efren Reyes had died at the age of 65. The claim is false: in response to the hoax reports, Reyes told AFP on January 19, 2021 that he was still alive . The doctored screenshot in the Facebook posts has been manipulated from a July 2017 report about Reyes discussing his intention to retire from professional pool.
The photo was shared in this Facebook post on January 16, 2021.
It purports to show a screenshot of a report by Philippine news organisation ABS-CBN. The headline reads: Goodbye, The Magician Bata Reyes. Dies at the age of 65.”

Not only is Efren “Bata” Reyes alive and well, but he’s still good enough to play competitive pool.
The 66-year-old pool legend will team up with Ronnie Alcano in a race-to-25 affair against his good buddy Django Bustamante and Carlo Biado in the event dubbed as the “Sharks 10-Ball Showdown.”
The doubles match is going to be shown live starting at 3 p.m. on the Sharks’ Facebook page in the continuing series of pool matches that began in late-December.
Efren “Bata” Reyes and his family are considering filing legal charges against persons responsible for spreading “fake news” last Saturday about the death of the Filipino pool legend.

It took three months of hard work and dedication for young artist John Marko David Dadulo to finish one of his masterpieces dedicated to a long-time sports idol.
Both Dadulo and no less than Filipino billiards legend Efren “Bata” Reyes were all smiles during a short meeting last Thursday for the turnover of the charcoal portrait made on 30 x 20 inches paper.
In one of his Facebook posts, Dadulo documented the meetup as he unveiled the artwork in front of Bata while “Hall of Fame” by The Script plays on the background.
