A party at a mansion in the Auckland suburb of Westmere descended into bloody chaos when a guest suffered critical injuries after being apparently stabbed by a champagne flute. The event on Friday night was at a property in Rawene Ave that was crowned NZ Home & Entertaining Home of the Year in 2007. One of the attendees told the Herald it was a beautiful occasion, with wonderful catering - but shortly before 8pm it took a dark turn.

An investigation has been launched after rugby fans were injured when a barrier gave way during Friday night s Highlanders match.
A group of fans were watching the game against the Blues from a temporary stand at Dunedin s Forsyth Barr Stadium, when the front barrier toppled over.

An elderly woman died from sepsis after a rest home neglected to care for her appropriately when she stayed there because she had fractured her arm.
Bupa Care Services NZ was found in breach of the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers Rights for multiple failings in the care give to the woman which resulted in her being in significant pain, nausea and discomfort during some of her final days, according to a report released by deputy Health and Disability Commissioner Rose Wall today.

Covid-19 Minister Chris Hipkins has admitted the Government could have moved earlier when it came to making the border worker testing register mandatory. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, he told Q&A this morning.
The admission has drawn criticism from the National Party.
