Turkey’s Genocide Comments Underscore Broken Ceasefire Agreement
12/13/2020 Washington, D.C. (International Christian Concern) – International Christian Concern (ICC) has learned that on December 11, 2020, Azerbaijan broke its ceasefire agreement by launching an attack in Nagorno-Karabakh’s
(Armenian: Artsakh’s) Hadrut district. Azerbaijani President Aliyev blamed Armenia for the attacks, threatening to
“break its head with an iron fist” and saying,
“This time, we will destroy them completely.”
This incident was reported by the Russian forces deployed as peacekeepers to monitor the ceasefire. It occurred just one day after Azerbaijan and Turkey hosted a joint military parade to celebrate their victory over Nagorno-Karabakh. Turkey is jointly serving with Russia in a peacekeeper role, but has supported Azerbaijan’s aggressive military actions in Nagorno-Karabakh. Calls on International Community to Take Action
During a military parade in Baku on December 10, 2020, the leaders of Turkey and Azerbaijan took the liberty of making declarations that amount to hate speech, threatening the physical existence of the Armenians living on Armenian lands, and calling into the territorial integrity of the Republics of Armenia and Artsakh.
The Azeri leader did not hesitate, once again, to consider Syunik, Gegharkunik and the capital Yerevan as Azerbaijani territories. Furthermore, the Turkish leader, by invoking the name of Enver Pasha [one of the architects of the Armenian Genocide], effectively, once again, crowned himself a successor of one of the greatest executioners of the Armenian people.
Armenia’s Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan
During a military parade Thursday Baku, Azerbaijan’s president Ilham Aliyev proclaimed that Zangezur, Lake Sevan, and Yerevan are historical lands of Azerbaijan.
At the same event, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan glorified the masterminds and perpetrators of the Armenian Genocide, as well as the mass atrocities against Armenians committed in Baku in September 1918. The two leaders continued their vitriol and hatred toward the Armenian people, threatening the life, safety and well-being of the entire population of Armenia.
Armenia’s Human Rights Defender’s Office assessed the speeches and confirm that the statements and expressions of hatred and hostility voiced by the Azerbaijani and Turkish presidents were the same used by Azerbaijani soldiers during this war while cruelly torturing, killing or degrading Armenian prisoners of war and captive civilians with excessive cynicism and humiliation.

On Thursday, a few hours before the leaders of European Union member-states were to discuss the bloc’s relations with Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended a military parade in Baku, celebrating Azerbaijan’s triumph over Armenian forces (with Turkish assistance).
The European leaders may be divided over whether they should impose sanctions against Turkey for its belligerence against some of its members, but Erdoğan does not display similar sensitivities: In Thursday’s celebrations, he hailed the name of Enver Pasha, the Ottoman war minister who played a significant role in the Armenian genocide, as well as his brother, who commanded the Islamic Army of the Caucasus, which occupied Baku in 1918.
