Safety and maintaining the smooth movement of essential goods is driving Ontario’s plan to expand truck rest areas across the province.
The province in announcing it wants safer and more convenient stops for truck drivers, said 14 existing rest areas will be improved – including the Highway 401 westbound ONroute at Bainsville – and 10 new rest areas will be built.

Also, there’ll be an addition of 178 truck parking spaces at four existing ONroute plazas. The government said it’s part of a five-year plan to keep the provinces’ roads and highways among the safest on the continent.

The ONroute rest area along the eastbound lanes of Highway 401 west of Trenton is being expanded as part of a province wide upgrade for trucking and motorist stops along major highways, the Ontario government announced Thursday.
New signs are also being posted at rest areas asking truckers and motorists to watch for signs of human trafficking along Ontario’s major highways.
