A pair of television polls aired Tuesday evening put Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s bloc of right-wing and religious parties short of a majority, but also predicted that his rivals would have had a hard time building a viable coalition.
The polls were published shortly before the Knesset dissolved at midnight Tuesday, with the expiration of a deadline for the 2020 state budget, triggering the fourth national election in two years.
One of the surveys also had former Likud minister Gideon Sa’ar nipping at Netanyahu’s heels in terms of the candidate deemed best-suited to be the prime minister.
“The world needs you healthy and full of energy,” Lapid tweeted.

As result of the diagnosis, a trip next week by Macron to Lebanon where the president had been pressing for far-reaching political change after the giant Beirut port explosion in August has been canceled, his office said.
French Prime Minister Jean Castex will self-isolate after contact with Macron, his office said.
It said the premier shows no symptoms but will no longer be going to the French Senate on Thursday to outline his government’s vaccine strategy to combat COVID-19.

As Israel appears to be heading for its fourth elections in less than two years, former IDF chief of staff Gadi Eisenkot is currently gaining popularity as the next general to trade his uniform for a suit and take the plunge into the difficult, unforgiving and demanding political fray.
“Gadi Eisenkot was a good chief of staff and has more political qualities than some other former chiefs of staff. It is a good sign that he is modestly finding his way into politics without presenting himself as a savior,” says Prof. Dan Schueftan, head of the international graduate program in National Security Studies at Haifa University.
