The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has assured the public that it maintains its close partnership with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to run after the perpetrators of child pornography.
The DSWD as chair of the Inter-Agency Council Against Child Pornography (IACACP) made the assurance after the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) released a report showing that from January to June 2020, some P113.1 million worth of suspicious transactions related to child pornography were recorded.
“As chair of the IACACP and the lead agency in the social protection of vulnerable sectors, the DSWD is closely working with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to track and apprehend the perpetrators of child pornography and rescue the victims,” it said in a statement.

“We have to place measures to protect our children – even from themselves. We have to act so that children are not forced to prostitute themselves because of their needs,” House Assistant Majority Leader Rizal Rep. Fidel Nograles said after reports have said that some students had been peddling sensual photos and videos in order to raise money to buy more gadgets for their distance learning classes.
Distance learning methods were implemented on a large scale last year after the coronavirus made traditional face-to-face classes untenable due to health concerns. Unfortunately, Internet sex vultures had a field day with the extended time that pupils now spend online.

Aside from the DOJ’s Office of Cybercrime, Guevarra said the cybercrime division of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has been mobilized in the intensified campaign to pinpoint and apprehend those engaged in illegal activities through online.
Guevarra’s statement was issued in response to the call of Senator Sherwin Gatchalian for the DOJ, the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Department of Education (DepEd) to investigate reports that many students have been selling obscene photos and videos of themselves to earn money for their educational needs.
