Global Grooves instrumental in national children’s Carnival initiative Date published: 23 April 2021 Delivered by Carnival arts organisations up and down the country, Global Grooves will be representing the North of England Mossley-based Carnival arts organisation, Global Grooves, will be bringing the Carnival spirit to local children during a week-long celebration this summer. The brainchild of the UK Centre for Carnival Arts based in Luton, National Children’s Carnival Week is an initiative which seeks to provide a celebration full of camaraderie, vibrancy and exuberance for every child and young person this July. Delivered by Carnival arts organisations up and down the country, Global Grooves will be representing the North of England, with activity taking place at their home, The Vale, on Micklehurst Road in Mossley.

Nikki DeVignes Nikki DeVignes is the Associate Director of the Energy and Environment Program where she leads operations, logistics, finance, and accounting as well as provides critical support for all aspects of the program’s forums and convenings. Additionally, she serves as the Director of the Future Leaders Initiative. Launched in 2020, the Initiative, which aims to inspire new ideas and challenge thinking around leadership and solutions to climate change, is host to the Future Leaders Climate Summit. Nikki started as a summer intern working on the Aspen Environment Forum with National Geographic while attending the University of Virginia, where she attained a BA in International Relations.

Massive new Augmented Reality mural unveiled in downtown Vancouver

The AR mural was created by Vancouver artist Andrea Wan with 1,834 unique pixels, each representing a person who supported the St. Paul’s Foundation campaign. Components of the 80 by 33.5-foot mural can be animated by scanning QR codes that are placed at key socially distant spots at the viewing location.     “I wanted to create an art piece that shines a light on mental health during these times of isolation,” said Wan in a release. “While we are taking care of our physical health, I think it’s also as important to take care of our mental health. A simple gesture of care, a genuine conversation, even a smile or eye contact goes a long way in reassuring each other that we are not alone.”

The Detroit Zoological Society is now accepting applications from Michigan residents ages 7 to 12 to be the next mayor of Amphibiville, a 2-acre wetland village that houses the award-winning National Amphibian Conservation Center at the Detroit Zoo. The building is home to large natural habitats for a wide variety of frogs, toads, salamanders, newts and caecilians, with an emphasis on education and awareness of the role they play in the environment.
