On Tuesday, Citizens for a Healthy Bay and Puget Soundkeeper Alliance filed a Clean Water Act (CWA) lawsuit against defendant Electron Hydro LLC for illegal discharges the company reportedly made into the Puyallup River, a tributary of the Puget Sound. The plaintiffs’ citizen suit seeks declaratory and injunctive relief, the imposition of civil penalties, and an award of costs for Electron’s alleged violations.
The Western District of Washington complaint explains that the conservation groups have representational standing because their members, some of whom live, work, or recreate in the area, have been adversely affected by Electron’s supposed pollution. The illegal discharges, they claim, threaten their members’ interests and impair the Puyallup River, Commencement Bay, and Puget Sound’s waters and the species that rely on them.

It’s a new year, and with that year will likely come some of the groundwork for removing the Electron Dam on the Puyallup River.
Just last week, the Puyallup Tribe announced it was suing the owner of the dam, Electron Hydro, LLC, over a long list of environmental hazards and permit violations including a fish kill that caused the death of thousands of fish and the pollution of the river with un-permitted artificial turf, both of which occurred during construction last summer.

As the calendar closes on a year that saw the owner of the Electron Dam come under fire for actions during a construction project on the Puyallup River, the Puyallup Tribe is suing Electron Hydro, LLC.
The Puyallup Tribe has filed a federal lawsuit against Electron Hydro over alleged violations of the Environmental Protection Act.
During a construction project this past summer, Electron Hydro put sheets of artificial turf equating to more than 2,000 square yards into the river without a permit. Some of the turf disintegrated into tiny pieces of crumb rubber and flowed downstream, all the way into Commencement Bay.

The Puyallup Tribe has filed a lawsuit against Electron Hydro, the owners of the Electron Dam on the Puyallup River, for endangering salmon by improperly using artificial turf and releasing yards of the material and crumb rubber into the Puyallup River.
The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court on Wednesday against Electron Hydro LLC, and the collection of corporations that own, finance, and control the hydropower company.
