Chen Mei-chin allegedly took bribes to make rulings in defence attorneys’ favor, some of whom allegedly paid for sex services By Jason Pan / Staff reporter The Taipei Shilin District Prosecutors’ Office has charged former judge Chen Mei-chin (陳梅欽) with financial fraud, possessing assets of unknown origin and other breaches of the Anti-Corruption Act (貪污治罪條例). The indictment was made public earlier this week, after the Ministry of Justice’s Agency Against Corruption launched an investigation in response to allegations that Chen took bribes and falsified records to obtain overtime pay, starting in 2012 when he was a judge at the Shilin District Court.

FG approves CSO to monitor projects with recovered $311m

By Ebere Agozie Abuja, Dec. 24, 2020 The Federal Government has approved the engagement of a Civil Society Organisation (CSO) to monitor the implementation of the 311million dollars recovered in February. Dr Umar Gwandu, Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations to the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Malam Abubakar Malami, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja. “The Federal Executive Council approved the award of the consultancy monitoring of the projects, 2nd Niger Bridge, Abuja to Kano Express Way and Lagos to Ibadan Expressway to CLEEN FOUNDATION, a Nigeria-based CSO. “The approval came after a presentation made by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, on the competitive bidding process involving 17 Nigeria and international CSOs and Businesses.

Alex Enumah in Abuja The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved the engagement of a Civil Society Organisation (CSO) that will monitor the implementation of over $311million recovered in February 2020. A statement by Dr Umar Gwandu, Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations, Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, said the purpose of the involvement of CSO was to increase transparency in the management of recovered funds. The statement said the approval came after a presentation made by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN on the competitive bidding process involving 17 Nigeria and international CSOs and Businesses.
