Sky News business reporter Edward Boyd says after a "couple of muted days of trading" the ASX did make some "better gains" on Thursday.
Mr Boyd said the ASX finished the day up about 0.43 per cent.
"Tech stocks were the best performer - they lifted about four per cent today".

"Oil companies did well, the rest of the market though, it was more of a flatter day of trading," Mr Boyd said.
"The stock market finished up just seven points, or 0.1 per cent".
Sky News business reporter Edward Boyd has provided an update on the stock market, saying he is not surprised technology stocks were the weakest performer of a flat day in the market.
“Tech stocks were the weakest performer today, the sector finished down about one per cent,” Mr Boyd said.
“It’s not surprising because overnight on Wall Street in the United States, tech stocks were sold off pretty sharply.
“The Nasdaq – that’s the tech index over there – finished down about 1.3 per cent.
“Some of the biggest companies in America to lose value: Twitter down about six per cent, Amazon down about four per cent, and Apple as well down about two per cent.”
