Wallasey Town Hall WIRRAL Council has promised a review of its processes to ensure they are conducted to the very highest standards after a vulnerable teenage asylum seeker was unlawfully age assessed. The boy sought asylum in the UK when he was 15 but was accused by council officials of being 20 and has won a legal battle against the authority following a judicial review. The court s decision prevents the council from shunning duties owed to him under the Children Act and means he will be treated as a child in his asylum claim. In a damning judgment, Upper Tribunal Judge O Callaghan said the local authority s assessment was fundamentally unfair and that the age assessment was conducted unlawfully .
