Drink-drive factory worker blamed excessively slow speed on pain

Ilie Curelea-Rosu admitted the offence when he appeared before magistrates in Hereford. Prosecutor Jonathan Purser told the court Curelea-Rosu had been seen driving at around 15 miles per hour in Ledbury Road, Hereford, at 4.45am on January 7. Police decided to follow his Volkswagen Golf, which was indicating right, but turned left into Central Avenue, where it came to a stop. Curelea-Rosu, who was unsteady on his feet and smelled of alcohol, told officers he had last had a drink at around 10pm the night before, and was arrested after failing a roadside breath test. In custody, an evidential test revealed he had 59 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.
