The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce is sending a notice to Washington D.C. in response to a Congressional bill that would increase the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour over a four-year period.
“It’s just outstanding to have all this occur in our community, especially when you have such a distressed time, like right now during Covid,” Eddie McBride said of the businesses that are opening in places such as Slide Road and South Milwaukee.

McBride started the discussion by talking about the new round of Paycheck Protection Program loans, or PPP loans, as well as general COVID-19 emergency loans, that are happening today. When asked about PPP loans, Eddie explained that they are a type of loan for small businesses to help give some relief during the pandemic, but that you can only apply under certain circumstances. Requirements include the business having 300 employees or less, which is fewer than the last time PPP loans were given, and your business needs to have had greater than 25% reduction in gross receipts from one year to the next. Lubbock Chamber, city of Lubbock announce Christmas Car Parade

The Lubbock Chamber of Commerce and the city of Lubbock announced a “Drive of Good Cheer” Christmas Car Parade scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18.
Participants are encouraged to decorate their cars in the spirit of the holiday season to bring Christmas joy throughout the route and across the city, according to a news release from the Chamber.
The car parade will meet in the north parking lot of the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center. Cars will line up in the order they arrive and hazard lights are required throughout the route. The “Drive of Good Cheer” will drive by both University Medical Center and Covenant Medical Center, ending at 34th Street and Avenue Q.
