Hutt City Mayor Campbell Barry has officially taken over as chairman of the Wellington Water Committee, marking a new era in the region s infrastructure crisis. We really need to be open an honest about the state of our infrastructure and the problems we are currently facing in overcoming those issues, Barry told the Herald.
Hutt City councillor David Bassett resigned from the chairman role in March after eight years at the helm.

A person has been taken into custody in Greytown following sightings of a firearm that put a Wairarapa School into lockdown.
A police spokesperson said it was understood the person had an air rifle. No charges had been laid.
Kuranui College in South Wairarapa was earlier put into a precautionary lockdown following reports of the potential sighting of a firearm in Greytown.
A post made on the school s Facebook page at 2.15 said the college was no longer in lockdown and students had been released for lunch.
