MS Society Commits to Raising $5 2M for Research in UK

4.3 (7) The MS Society in the U.K. is hoping to raise £3.7 million ($5.2 million) to fund research aimed at developing new treatments for multiple sclerosis (MS). The funds will support research at the Society’s Centers of Excellence in Edinburgh and Cambridge over five years. “Our top priority is finding treatments that slow or stop MS for everyone,” Emma Gray, PhD, assistant director of research at the MS Society, said in a press release. “The work happening in Cambridge and Edinburgh is inventive, innovative and incredibly exciting, and will be vital to help us reach our goal.” MS is caused by immune cells attacking the body’s own myelin, a fatty insulation that covers the long branches, called axons, that extend from nerve cells. When myelin is destroyed a process called demyelination the connections between neurons become defective and MS symptoms arise.

From tortas to bánh mi, a mini-wave of new restaurants opening in Roseville

Copy shortlink: When a trio of siblings took over a KFC in Brooklyn Park in 2018, they didn t know they d become fast-food warriors three years later. This spring, the team behind Mi-Sant Bahn Mi Co. will make the leap to a second locale in Roseville, this time in a remade former Bakers Square. They signed the paperwork on the place a month before COVID hit, but had an out when it was clear the pandemic would greatly impact the restaurant industry. A developer offered to take the new site off their hands, with the caveat that they d be putting in two fast-food restaurants in its place.

Scottish Government has no plan B to hit climate targets

Warnings have been issued over the reliance on unproven technology to stop heavy industry emitting carbon into the atmosphere EXPERTS have warned the Scottish Government’s strategy for hitting ambitious climate targets by 2030 is based on “wishful thinking” amid fears there is no plan B in the event untested technology cannot be scaled up. Scottish Government ministers have published their climate change update after MSPs pledged to reduce 1990 levels of carbon emissions by 75 per cent by 2030 on the way to becoming carbon neutral by 2045. But experts have raised concerns that using carbon capture and storage (CCS) and negative emissions technology (NET) to decarbonise heavy industry such as the oil and gas sector are not based on evidence it can be done in time.
