Heavy trucking on residential streets concerns Saugus selectmen

Wicked Local Margaret O’Neil Lankow is looking for the town to crack down on tractor-trailers that have been using local streets through Saugus Center and Cliftondale Square. Lankow said she began to notice an increase in 18-wheelers and 22-wheelers many months ago. On June 7, Lankow counted four tractor-trailers that drove through Saugus Center during one hour in the morning. Two weeks later, she spotted four tractor-trailers in the area of Main Street and Hamilton Street during a 20-minute stretch. Lankow appeared before the Board of Selectmen to voice her frustration as to why heavy trucks are allowed to rumble through residential streets.

The house on Essex Street wasn t the only residency to receive multiple party complaints. A single-family home on K Street had the third-most party complaint calls throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. “The number of calls we’re receiving into our communications center are increasing at a very rapid rate,” said San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit. On a usual week, dispatch receives 25,000 to 26,000 calls. Recently, they ve been getting around 30,000 911 calls a week. This year, police have responded to over 3,000 party complaints which are back on pace with the number from 2019. According to NBC7, the number probably won t get as high as it did in 2020.

Regal Cinemas Signs Deal For 14-Screen Complex at Essex Crossing | The Lo-Down : News from the Lower East Side

In October, Buildings Deportment documents revealed that a 14-screen movie theater would be part of the big Essex Crossing project on Delancey Street. Now developers of the nearly 2-million square foot mixed use complex tell Crain’s the operator of the theater will be Regal Cinemas. The theaters will be located in a 24-story building at the southeast corner of Delancey and Essex streets. The 65,000 square foot facility will be just above a new Essex Street Market.  It’s a 15-year lease. Regal Cinemas already runs the multi-screen theaters at Union Square and at Battery Park City. Rohan Mehra, of the Prusik Group (the firm handling retail leasing at Essex Crossing) told Crain’s the theater would be the largest in Lower Manhattan. “We feel that this is going to be a theater that draws people to this project,” he said. :You need entertainment in any kind of well-curated mixed-use development.”
