Home / News & Events / U.S. Embassy donates more COVID-19 supplies to Malian Minister of Health As the world continues to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, we are pleased to work with our Malian partners in that effort.  Ambassador Hankins joined the Minister of Health and Social Development, Dr. Fanta Siby, to donate supplies from the American people to the Malian people. COVID-19 test kits test kits will detect Malians who are infected and help prevent further spread.  Hand sanitizer and face masks will protect the brave health care workers who care for the sick.  The test analyzers will contribute to the ability of Mali to conduct reliable and rapid testing.  The Ambassador stressed in his remarks “the health sector is a top priority of our assistance and we spare no efforts in this area.”

Demonstration Alert - Bamako, Mali - January 20 and 21, 2021

Locations:   Events: A demonstration is planned for Wednesday, January 20 at 2 pm. The demonstration will be held at the Monument de l’Indépendance. The purpose of this demonstration is to demand the removal of French “Barkhane” forces deployed in Mali. This demonstration has not yet been approved by the host government. A second demonstration is planned for Thursday, January 21 at 2 pm. This demonstration will be held in Djelibougou, near Restaurant Savannah. The purpose of this demonstration is to call for the release of activist Mohamed Youssouf Bathily, also known as Ras Bath, from prison. This demonstration has not been approved by the host government.

Storming of the United States Capitol January 8, 2021 The United States Congress has completed its Constitutionally mandated count of the Electoral College vote and affirmed the election of Joseph R. Biden, Jr. and Kamala D. Harris. They will be sworn into office and a peaceful transfer of power will occur on January 20, 2021. The criminals who committed violent acts of terror against our democracy on Wednesday will be held accountable in accordance with the rule of law in the United States. Our heartfelt gratitude to the many citizens of Mali who sent messages of support during Wednesday’s difficult hours. The enduring friendship and partnership between the United States and the people of Mali will endure and thrive as we recommit to supporting and living up to our democratic ideals.
