KATHMANDU Today, U.S. Ambassador to Nepal, Randy W. Berry, along with United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Nepal Mission Director Sepideh Keyvanshad, handed over two secondary schools in Kathmandu. The small ceremony included the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) Chief Executive Officer, Sushil Gyewali, and the Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) Officer-in-chief, Sharad Bhandari.
The U.S. government, through USAID, has partnered with the NRA, and the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology to complete the reconstruction of 29 permanent schools in Nepal. Today’s event marks two more of those primary and secondary schools as ready for use.

Event: A large political protest of approximately 10,000 to 15,000 people will rally at points near Ratna Park and City Center before proceeding to Exhibition Road in central Kathmandu on Tuesday, December 29, from 1100 hours. While likely to be peaceful, traffic will be disrupted in the surrounding areas and there will be a large security presence.
All individuals and organizations are strongly advised to avoid Ratna Park, City Center and Exhibition Road in central Kathmandu and surrounding areas. Should you find yourself in a large crowd or unexpected protest, you should attempt to depart the area immediately. The United States-Nepal Council on Trade and Investment, under the United States-Nepal Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA), held its fifth meeting virtually on December 15, 2020 to promote expanded bilateral trade and investment in both goods and services. The meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Christopher Wilson, Assistant United States Trade Representative for South and Central Asia, and Mr. Baikuntha Aryal, Secretary of Commerce and Supplies, Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies, Government of Nepal. Both delegations included officials from trade, finance, labor, and other regulatory agencies.
