Military Nurse Gets National Honor for Her Commitment to Critically Ill Patients
Lt. Col. DeAnna Hutchings is getting her moment in the sun for her dedicated service during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the manager of the largest intensive care unit in the Department of Defense, she’s one of 18 nurses to receive this year’s Circle of Excellence Award from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. The organization is paying tribute to Hutchings’ unflinching dedication to critically ill families and patients. Over the course of the pandemic, the military nurse has become a leader in patient safety.

10 JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO, TX - The U.S. Army Medical Test and Evaluation Activity (USAMTEAC), formally named the U.S. Army Medical Department Board, conducted a customer test of an Ophthalmic Slit Lamp (OSL). The test was conducted for the U.S. Army Medical Materiel Development Activity (USAMMDA) at the Deployable Medical System Equipment for Training site, Camp Bullis, TX.
The customer test was conducted in a simulated field hospital at the DMSET site, which represented the operational environment. The purpose of the test was to assess the effectiveness of the OSL in supporting the medical mission and the suitability of the OSL in a simulated operational environment. The OSL was operated by Soldiers having various medical military occupational specialties and areas of concentration.

SAN ANTONIO A soldier assigned to JBSA Fort Sam Houston was found dead in his off-base home on the morning of April 24.
Spc. Jerald Offer, 24, was a combat medic assigned to the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence.
“It is with great sadness that we confirm the tragic loss of Spc. Jerald Offer,” said Maj. Gen. Dennis LeMaster, the MEDCoE commanding general. “The entire leadership chain is focused on providing support and assistance to Jerald’s family during this difficult time.”
