Throws spun from Wyoming wool will boost UW sheep program, utilize blockchain UW ExtensionThe wool top, semi-processed wool, is fed into the machine that spins it into yarn at Mountain Meadow Wool in Buffalo. LARAMIE, WY – Profits from sales of limited-edition throws made from wool grown and knitted in Wyoming will be reinvested back in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources sheep and wool program at the University of Wyoming’s Laramie Research and Extension Center (LREC). Photo Outside Business Journal Whit Stewart, UW Extension sheep specialist, approached Scott Lake, LREC director, with the idea to create the wool throws. With Lake’s help, the team gained support from the college and dean Barbara Rasco, who has been a huge proponent of the project and the sheep industry efforts as a whole, shared Stewart.

Bianca Kiyoe Frogner, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine in the School of Medicine at University of Washington (UW). She is the Director of the UW Center for Health Workforce Studies (CHWS) and Deputy Director of the Primary Care Innovation Lab (PCI-Lab), which are housed in the Department of Family Medicine. Dr. Frogner is a health economist (NIH T32 trainee) with expertise in health services delivery, health workforce, labor economics, health spending, health insurance coverage and reimbursement, and international health systems. She is the Principal Investigator of two Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Health Workforce Research Center (HWRC) grants, one focused on allied health and another focused on the training and education of health professionals to address health equity.

Four faculty receive 2021 Hilldale Awards MADISON – Each year, the Secretary of the Faculty recognizes four professors from the University of Wisconsin–Madison for distinguished contributions to research, teaching and service. The Hilldale Awards go to one faculty member each from the arts and humanities, social sciences, physical sciences and biological sciences, selected from nominations by department chairs. The winners were recognized at the April 5 Faculty Senate meeting and are awarded $7,500. This year’s Hilldale Award winners are: Susan Ellis Weismer , Michael Fiore, Sabine Gross and Robert Mathieu. Susan Ellis Weismer Susan Ellis Weismer is an expert on language learning disorders in children. She has contributed new insights into three major language-associated disorders: Autism Spectrum Disorder, developmental language disorder, and children who are late to talk. Her work has uncovered previously hidden patterns of learning in children living with these disorder
