Hunter College Elementary School teachers and administrators tussled over pandemic-related safety measures ahead of its reopening Monday, including how frequently to test students for the coronavirus to avoid outbreaks.
The elite Manhattan school, which counts Broadway composer Lin Manuel Miranda and Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan among its alums, reopened with many other public schools after rising Covid-19 cases prompted the mayor to shut down in-person learning last month.
At the heart of the recent testing tension: How many students learning in person should be tested, how frequently to do so to prevent outbreaks, and who should be responsible for managing it?
