Minister Donohoe encourages businesses to avail of supports as further restrictions take effect
The Minister for Finance, Paschal Donohoe TD, has today (Friday) encouraged businesses to avail of the range of support schemes in place to reduce the impact of new public health restrictions on their business.
Revenue continue to play a significant role in the delivery of critical Government supports to affected businesses that help to protect lives and livelihoods.
Speaking today Minister Donohoe said:
“Due to the exponential growth in the virus seen over recent days and weeks, the Government has taken the necessary step in introducing further public health restrictions to reduce the overall level of mobility across the country. Nearly 60% of all Clare businesses have availed of the government state supports provided since the start of the pandemic.
However, the take-up rate of the Wage Subsidy Scheme and Pandemic Unemployment Payment here has been lower than in most other counties.

This new CSO data covers the period from March to September, and finds that in that time 58.4% of Clare businesses were supported through either the Wage Subsidy Scheme or Pandemic Unemployment Payment.
This represents around 3,600 businesses throughout the county, but in percentage terms, only five counties – Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Roscommon and Mayo – had lower take-up rates, however.

Quarantine-free travel arrangements with Australia and the Cook Islands are set to begin in the first part of 2021, which is great news for those who want to travel overseas but also for tourism operators in New Zealand who have suffered from the fall-off in international tourism this year. The prospect of overseas visitors returning to our region to enjoy areas like Te Anau and Fiordland will be a boon for our tourist towns, operators and other industries that indirectly benefit economically.
