Akwa Ibom blames incessant boundary crisis on Decree 23 On By Harris Emanuel, Uyo Akwa Ibom State government has blamed the promulgation of decree 23 of 1985 as the bane of the lingering boundary crises across the country, calling for an overhaul of the law by the National Assembly. Deputy governor, Moses Ekpo stated this during the Joint Sensitization and Enlightenment campaign visit of officials of the National Boundary Commission to the border communities of Akwa Ibom/ Abia interstate boundary, held at the Forward Operations Military Base in Ika Local Government Area of the state. The Deputy Governor noted that the decree amounted to an administrative error as it was wrong for people to stay in faraway places and demarcate areas they had no idea about, even without considering the consequences of such action on the relationship of the people living in such areas.

Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu says that his administration shall use every lawful means to protect and safeguard every inch of the territory of Abia State from criminals and marauders. Governor Ikpeazu stated this on Wednesday, at Akirika Obu Community in Ukwa East LGA when he visited the community to assess the current situation on the heels of reports of some unlawful invasion of the community by some criminal elements. Ikpeazu made it clear that his administration shall resist any form of expansionist agenda, either by communities from neighboring states or from any outlawed group by whatever name called. The Governor, who arrived the border community with a contingent of military officers, to the admiration of the people of the community, assured them that every available space in the community will, henceforth be well policed.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has described the people of Ukwa extraction as industrious, hardworking, trustworthy and as such deserving of every opportunity to serve the state and the country. The Governor stated this on Saturday, at his country home, Umuobiakwa, while receiving a delegation of political leaders from Ukwa East and Ukwa West LGAs who came on a ‘thank you’ visit to the Governor for facilitating the election of one of their illustrious sons, Ambassador Okey Emuchay as the Secretary-General of the Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide. Governor Ikpeazu said that the people of Ukwa have always distinguished themselves in public service from time immemorial which explains the reason behind the selection of Ukwa indigenes to hold key positions in his government.
