On Thursday afternoon, Kyrgyz diplomacy announced that the foreign ministers of both sides had agreed on a complete truce from 16:00 (CEST) and the return of troops to their previous places of deployment .
A statement from Tajikistan’s state information service acknowledged on Friday that the two sides had reached a mutual agreement to end the armed conflict, and withdraw military personnel and equipment to places of permanent deployment.
The clashes along the border between the two poor, mountainous countries have been the most violent in years.
Thursday s clash between their two armies raised fears that it could escalate into a wider conflict.

Kyrgyzstan said at least 31 people have been killed in heavy clashes at its disputed border with Tajikistan, as officials from the two ex-Soviet countries met Friday in a bid to defuse tensions.
Clashes between communities over land and water along the pair’s long-contested border are regular occurrences, with border guards often getting involved.
But shooting that broke out Thursday between the two militaries was the heaviest fighting in years and raised fears that it might escalate into a wider conflict.
Tajikistan, a closed, authoritarian state, has yet to officially acknowledge any deaths from the clashes between servicemen on Thursday.

Kyrgyzstan said Thursday it had quickly agreed a ceasefire with Tajikistan after the heaviest clashes in years erupted along the Central Asian countries’ disputed frontier. x
Kyrgyzstan’s foreign ministry said in a statement that a “complete ceasefire” had been agreed from 8:00 pm (1400 GMT) on Thursday, with military forces returning to bases.
The two neighbours have been locked in border disputes for decades and there have been sporadic clashes along the frontier for years.
