WHILE the energetic performances by the stars at Holy Name Convent’s virtual cooler fete could not fully replicate the vibe and physicality of a fete, attendees were pleased with the atmosphere of the two-hour event.
Flight of the Virtual Phoenix III drew over 400 viewers on Sunday. The show was streamed live from the school’s Marian Hall.
The process of entering the virtual venue was smooth, as was the interaction with the tents where attendees could see videos from sponsors NLCB, Lemon Lime and Bitters, and The Security Zone being played on what looked like big-screen TVs. They could also take quizzes based on the school and its history over the last 119 years.

First-class show at Sekon Sunday

Aaron “Voice” St Louis possibly echoed what a lot of people were feeling when they looked at this year’s Sekon Sunday when he said, “Yuh know how long I ain’t feel so boy.”
The annual Carnival event was held on January 10 at Queen’s Hall, St Ann’s, and merged the virtual and the live audience, following restrictions caused by the covid19 pandemic. While many events have been kept to the virtual realm – with the reopening of performance spaces – smaller live events have been happening again.
Itâs December 27 and that means two things: many stomachs are recovering from overindulgence during the past two days and soca fans everywhere are jumping on social media platforms to check out new releases.
Traditionally T&Tâs Carnival started yesterday, Boxing Day. At least the mass local and international interest in the new sounds of the upcoming festival season. And while, sadly, the ongoing global pandemic has added Carnival Monday and Tuesday (February 15 and 16) to its daily growing list of victims, the innate need to fete remains alive in every beating Carnival loverâs heart.
Thankfully and perhaps mercifully their âsoca warriorsâ have not abandoned them in their greatest hour of need. New soca releases have been aplenty in recent months, fuelling a series of virtual online eventsâand not so legal Covid-19-regulaitons-breaching âzesserâ and âwesserâ fetes leading up to T&Tâs highly anticipated virtual Carnival 2021 sh
