Man Arrested On Suspicion Of Attempted Murder A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a serious attack in Belfast. The 42-year-old injured man was found with a head injury on the Upper Newtownards Road at around 4am on Sunday, 16 May. A 34-year-old man was arrested at the scene. Inspector Barry Moore said: Officers attended the scene and arrested a 34-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening at this stage.

Four Teenage Boys Attacked In Portrush Four teenage boys have been attacked by a group of between 30 to 50 youths in what police are describing as an unprovoked and vicious assault in Portrush. The teen swede approached by the gang who suggested a fight on East Starnd beach at around 7.30pm on Saturday, 15 May. When the boys refused they were assaulted. Three were punched in the face, one sustained a cut above his eye and another fell to the ground and was beaten around the head with either a hammer or metal object.  The third was then pushed into the sea and an attempt was made to hold his head under water.

Poots: Removing NI Protocol Is Top Priority The incoming DUP leader has said getting rid of the Northern Ireland Protocol will be his top priority in the coming months. Edwin Poots is planning to meet with Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Taoiseach Michael Martin within to try and resolve the post-Brexit trade arrangements. He also told the Sunday Life newspaper that he will not attend north-south ministerial meetings until the protocol issue is resolved. Mr Poots defeated the DUP s Westminster leader Sir Jeffrey Donaldson in the battle to replace Arlene Foster. In an exclusive interview with the newspaper he said: For me, this is not a unionist issue. This is a Northern Ireland issue. At the end of the grace period we are looking at 15,000 checks being applied on goods coming into Northern Ireland from Great Britain.

Appeal Issued To Find Two Brothers From North Belfast Police have issued an appeal to find two boys from north Belfast who have been missing since Friday, 14 MAy. Patrick Hovarth, aged five, and his brother Fabricio, aged 8, were last seen getting into a back Ford car in the Limestone Road area on Friday evening. The PSNI are becoming increasingly concerned for their safety and may be in the company of a relative. nspector Phil McCullagh said: We are keen to know that both boys are safe and well. We believe they may be in the company of a relative in Northern Ireland or possibly in Ireland – and so I would appeal to that person to get in touch with police as soon as possible on 101.

Doug Beattie Deemed Elected As New UUP Leader Doug Beattie has been deemed elected as the new leader of the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP). The Upper Bann Assembly member will succeed Steve Aiken in the role after it was confirmed he was the only candidate to put his name forward for election. Party chair Danny Kennedy told a Stormont press conference that Mr Beattie, 55, was therefore deemed elected, subject to ratification by the party council on 27 May. Mr Beattie, who served as a soldier for 34 years and was awarded the Military Cross for bravery in combat, promised a progressive and unifying agenda.
