The Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development Minister-designate, Mr Dan Botwe, has denied his involvement in disenfranchising the people of Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe and Lolobi (SALL) in the 2020 parliamentary election.
He said the then Ministry of Regional Reorganisation and Development did not have the mandate to create constituencies under the 1992 Constitution.
He argued that the creation of constituencies was the responsibility of the Electoral Commission (EC) and the Local Government Ministry.

Mr Botwe said that when he appeared before Parliament’s Appointments Committee.
Prior to his appearance last Monday, a joint committee from Akpafu and Lolobi Traditional areas had petitioned the Appointments Committee to reject his appointment to head the Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development Ministry.

Two advocacy groups, Good Governance Advocacy Group, Ghana (GGAGG) and Communal Labour Forum (CLF) have called for the rejection of the former Western Regional Minister, Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah by the Appointments Committee of Parliament.
The Member of Parliament for Takoradi has been renominated by President Akufo-Addo to head the Western region again but the two group think he is not fit to head that position again noting that, after “observation, investigations, assessment and analyses of some accusations that underprop our conclusions that Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah …does not, by his deeds, qualified for the position of Minister of State”.
The Dual Mandate system, allowing TDs and Senators to also serve as councillors, was abolished by the Local Government Amendment Act of 2003, in time for local elections the following year.
But that is not stopping Independent TD Verona Murphy from keeping her ear close to the ground and her finger on the parochial pulse by taking the unusual step of attending county council and district council meetings in the county, which have recently been held on Microsoft Teams.
Members of the public are entitled to attend local authority meetings by prior arrangement with officials and some people avail of the opportunity if there is a particular issue they are interested in.
NDC’s claim about manipulation of Council of State election baseless – NPP LISTEN

The Upper East Regional Secretariat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described as baseless the claims by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of government s attempts to manipulate the electoral college for the election of a Council of State member in the region.
The NDC at a press conference on Friday, February 5, 2021, threatened a legal suit against the NPP over allegations of the government s involvement of former Municipal and District chief executives and government appointees to vote in the upcoming election of a Council of State member.
